Resumo

RESUMEN: En este artículo ponemos en un cuadro general, a modo de boceto, de los rasgos principales del carácter, la vida y el ministerio del predicador revivalista, pastor, teólogo y filósofo del siglo XVIII, Jonathan Edwards. Edwards fue quizás el mejor predicador que haya existido en la historia cristiana post apostólica, además de ser uno de los quizás diez pensadores más profundos que haya parido la humanidad, además de haber sido un prolijo escritor, con pocos paralelos en la historia cristiana, sin dejar de lado que fue el padre del Gran Despertar a nivel global, entre otros grandes logros ministeriales. Se ha dicho de Edwards que quizás fue uno de los hombres más piadosos que haya existido en la historia cristiana, además de haber sido un esposo con pocos defectos según lo que se nos ha contado. Además, fue un padre eficaz y digno de admiración. Sus escritos han ejercido influencias imborrables y perennes en el campo de las misiones, los avivamientos y la teología evangélica. Edwards fue uno de esos hombres que podríamos llamar fuera de serie en la historia del cristianismo, en muchos sentidos, uno d elos padres de la nación americana.

ABSTRACT: In this article we put in an overview, in the form of a sketch, the main character traits, life and ministry of the revivalist preacher, pastor, theologian and philosopher of the 18th century, Jonathan Edwards. Edwards was perhaps the best preacher that has ever existed in history after de Apostles, above being one of the perhaps ten most profound thinkers that humanity has ever given birth to, as well as having been a prolific writer, with few parallels in Christian history, while continuing to side that was the father of the Great Awakening on a global level, among other great ministerial achievements. It has been said of Edwards that he was perhaps one of the most pious men in Christian history, as well as being a husband with few flaws according to what we have been told. In addition, he was an effective and admirable father. His writings have had lasting and indelible influences in the field of missions, revivals, and evangelical theology. Edwards was one of those men we might call outstanding in the history of Christianity, in many ways one of the fathers of America.
