Resumo

Atanásio, uma figura proeminente da história da Igreja Cristã, é frequentemente associado à sua imagem grega, apesar de sua forte imagem como copta, assim sendo um homem atuante em dois mundos. Sua ligação estreita com a Igreja Oriental Copta é emblemática das complexidades culturais e religiosas que caracterizavam o período em que viveu. Segundo Stephen J. Davis, em sua obra The Early Coptic Papacy: The Egyptian Church and Its Leadership in Late Antiquity, a Igreja Oriental Copta desempenhou um papel fundamental na formação da identidade de Atanásio, influenciando sua teologia e práticas pastorais. As homilias atribuídas a Atanásio de Alexandria fazem perceber sua identidade copta e sua expressão na língua copta, evidenciando sua profunda conexão com a comunidade local e sua tradição. Sua habilidade em expressar conceitos teológicos complexos e instruções pastorais por meio do copta demonstra sua proximidade na língua. A proposta desta análise bibliográfica, visa evidenciar a relação entre Atanásio e sua identidade copta em comparação com sua imagem grega. Sendo crucial para compreender as dinâmicas culturais e religiosas do período. Atanásio, foi profundamente influenciado pelo contexto copta (língua também) em que viveu e atuou como bispo de Alexandria. Sua identidade, portanto, é um campo complexo de análise, marcado pela interseção de diferentes culturas e tradições, um homem de duas realidades.

Athanasius: a man between two worlds - the journey between the Greek εικόνα and the Coptic Aнени

Abstract: Athanasius, a prominent figure in the history of the Christian Church, is often associated with his Greek image, despite his strong image as a Coptic, thus being a man active in two worlds. His close ties with the Eastern Coptic Church are emblematic of the cultural and religious complexities that characterized the period in which he lived. According to Stephen J. Davis in his work The Early Coptic Papacy: The Egyptian Church and Its Leadership in Late Antiquity, the Eastern Coptic Church played a fundamental role in shaping Athanasius' identity, influencing his theology and pastoral practices. The homilies attributed to Athanasius of Alexandria reveal his Coptic identity and its expression in the Coptic language, showing his deep connection with the local community and its tradition. His ability to express complex theological concepts and pastoral instructions in Coptic demonstrates his proximity to the language. The purpose of this bibliographical analysis is to highlight the relation between Athanasius and his Coptic identity in comparison with his Greek image. This is crucial for understanding the cultural and religious dynamics of the period. Athanasius was deeply influenced by the Coptic context (language too) in which he lived and served as bishop of Alexandria. His identity, therefore, is a complex field of analysis, marked by the intersection of different cultures and traditions, a man of two realities.
