JESUS E O DIVÓRCIO: O SIGNIFICADO DO TERMO GREGO “PORNEIA” EM MATEUS 5.32 E 19.9
Resumo
O objetivo deste artigo consiste em estudar o significado do termo grego porneia/ ποÏνεία em Mateus 5.32 e 19.9. “Fornicação”, “adultério”, “relação sexual ilícita” ou “incesto” são possibilidades de tradução para esta palavra. Sendo assim, a especificidade semântica dependerá do contexto em que a mesma estiver inserida. O entendimento desta palavra é fundamental para se compreender a “cláusula de exceção” que apresentaria uma abertura para o divórcio, deferimento este presente apenas no Evangelho de Mateus. Durante a história da interpretação deste dito dominical houve quase que uma unanimidade em se entender ποÏνεία como “adultério”. Todavia, dois questionamentos comprometem consideravelmente esta interpretação: Primeiro, se ποÏνεία significa “adultério”, por que o evangelista não utilizou a palavra específica (μοιχεία) para tal designação? Segundo, como poderia ocorrer um divórcio em caso de adultério uma vez que a Lei exigia pena de morte, e não repúdio do cônjuge, diante de infidelidade conjugal? Para explorar esta problemática adotaram-se três caminhos: 1) estudo das perícopes mateanas e afins a partir do idioma original, 2) exposição sumarizada de três interpretações propostas como solução ao problema, 3) avaliação dos resultados para se encontrar um ponto de confluência que se enquadre melhor aos limites do texto bíblico.

Jesus and divorce: the meaning of the greek term “porneia” in Matthew 5.32 and 19.9
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this article consists of studying the meaning of the greek word porneia/ ποÏνεία in Mathew 5.32 and 19.9. “Fornication”, “adultery”, “illicit sexual intercourse” or “incest” are prossibilities of translation for this term, therefore the semantic specificity will depend on the context in which this word is inserted. The understanding of this word is fundamental to grasping the “exception clause” that would represent an openness for divorce, deferment which is only in the Gospel of Matthew. During the history of interpretation of this Lord”s saying there was almost unanimity in understanding ποÏνεία as “adultery”. Nevertheless, two questionings considerably compromise this interpretation: Firstly, if ποÏνεία means “adultery”, why didn”t the evangelist use the specific word (μοιχεία) for such a designation? Secondly, how could divorce because of adultery occur since the Law required capital punishment, and not separation, against marital infidelity? In order to examine this problem three paths have been adopted: 1) a study of matthean pericopes and related ones from the original language, 2) summarized presentation of three proposed solution of the problem, 3) evaluation of the results in order to find a point of convergence that fits better whithin the biblical text.
