LOS PIADOSOS TAMBIÉN SUFREN EN LAS PESTILENCIAS: UNA REFLEXIÓN SOBRE LA TRÁGICA “MUERTE” DE JONATHAN EDWARDS Y VARIOS OTROS EN SU FAMILIA
Resumo
En este breve artículo mostramos como las tragedias les acaecen también a los santos. El fondo es nada más y nada menos que los aconteceres trágicos en varios miembros de la familia de Jonathan Edwards, inclusive. Por impresionante que pueda parecernos, Jonathan Edwards fue el creyente americano, de quien tengamos registro, más piadoso de toda la historia de los Estados Unidos; además de ser considerado por sus estudiosos y biógrafos, y casi por la generalidad erudita del mundo, como el teólogo más brillante de la historia de esa nación, y uno d ellos cinco teólogos más importantes de la historia cristiana. Y, sobre todos esos lauros, Edwards fue la gran figura del famoso Gran Despertar Americano del siglo 18; además de haber conducido a su iglesia y ciudad entre 1734 y 1736 al más glorioso despertar que haya habido en el planeta, hasta donde se sepa, después del avivamiento espiritual en los días apostólicos.

THE MERCIYFUL PEOPLE ALSO SUFFER IN PESTILENCES: A REFLECTION ON THE TRAGIC "DEATH" OF JONATHAN EDWARDS AND SEVERAL OTHERS IN HIS FAMILY
Abstract: In this short article we show how tragedies also happen to the saints. The background is nothing more and nothing less than the tragic events in various members of the family of Jonathan Edwards, inclusive. As impressive as it may seem to us, Jonathan Edwards was the most pious American believer on record, in the entire history of the United States; in addition to being considered by his scholars and biographers, and almost by the scholarly generality of the world, as the most brilliant theologian in the history of that nation, and one of them five most important theologians in Christian history. And, above all those awards, Edwards was the great figure of the famous Great American Awakening of the 18th century; in addition to having led to his church and city between 1734 and 1736 to the most glorious awakening that there has been on the planet, as far as is known, after the spiritual revival in the apostolic days.
