A PRÁTICA DO JURAMENTO E SEU SIGNIFICADO NOS TEXTOS E CONTEXTOS DO ANTIGO TESTAMENTO

Resumo

A importância do artigo consiste na análise do assunto ‘juramento’ nos textos canônicos do Antigo Testamento e na evidência da sua proximidade com temas- chaves para a teologia do Antigo Testamento como promessa e aliança. A abordagem do assunto fez uso de leitura pós-moderna, ou seja, recursos de vários métodos como o exame de palavras no texto original hebraico, leituras intrabíblicas e paralelos literários. O objetivo é ressaltar o que envolveu o juramento considerando formas e situações diferenciadas, as quais legitimam sua existência em diferentes momentos históricos. As etapas desenvolvidas foram as seguintes: introdução, definição do termo juramento com aproximação de temas teológicos, a prática e os nomes usados nas relações e compromissos do juramento. A pesquisa evidencia a credibilidade desta prática na realidade bíblica do povo de Israel, pois tal costume já está em uso desde o período Patriarcal, aparecendo também no Monárquico e em outros da história de Israel. O artigo conclui que o juramento foi utilizado amplamente no contexto bíblico e também em outras culturas no Antigo Oriente. Seu uso teve como importância honrar a palavra oralizada, mas em determinados momentos foi utilizado como forma de legitimar praticas cruéis.

The practice of the oath and its meaning in the texts and contexts of the Old Testament

Abstract: The importance of the article consists in the analysis of the oath subject in the canonical texts of the Old Testament and in the evidence of its proximity to key themes for Old Testament theology such as promise and covenant. The approach to the subject made use of postmodern reading, that is, resources of various methods such as examination of words in the Hebrew original text, intra-biblical readings and literary parallels. The objective is to emphasize what involved the oath considering different forms and situations, which legitimize its existence in different historical moments. The developed stages were the following: introduction, definition of the term oath with approximation of theological themes, the practice and names used in the relationships and commitments to the oath. The research evidences the credibility of this practice in the biblical reality of the people of Israel, as this custom has been in use since the Patriarchal period as in the Monarchic one, among others. The article concludes that the oath was widely used in the biblical context and also in other cultures in the Ancient East. Its use was important to give honor to the oral word, but at certain times it was used as a way to legitimize cruel practices.
