A INTERPRETAÇÃO DO PENSAMENTO DE PAULO: UMA ABORDAGEM HISTÓRICA

Resumo

O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar historicamente os principais enfoques interpretativos do pensamento do apóstolo Paulo ao longo da história da igreja e da pesquisa acadêmica. Partindo de uma contextualização biográfica e ministerial do apóstolo, o texto demonstra a complexidade e a riqueza de sua teologia, bem como as dificuldades inerentes à sua interpretação. Em seguida, são apresentados os principais paradigmas hermenêuticos que marcaram a história da interpretação paulina, desde a igreja primitiva e a Idade Média, passando pela Reforma Protestante, o Iluminismo, o liberalismo teológico, o existencialismo de Rudolf Bultmann, até os enfoques judaico-escatológicos e a chamada Nova Perspectiva sobre Paulo. O artigo evidencia como muitas dessas leituras foram fortemente influenciadas por pressupostos filosóficos, culturais e teológicos próprios de cada época, resultando, em alguns casos, em reducionismos interpretativos. Por fim, sustenta-se que, embora as diferentes abordagens tenham contribuído para o avanço dos estudos paulinos, nenhuma delas esgota a complexidade do pensamento do apóstolo. Defende-se a centralidade da justificação pela fé na teologia paulina, sem desconsiderar suas raízes judaicas, seu desenvolvimento histórico e sua profunda experiência de conversão, considerada elemento indispensável para a compreensão adequada de sua teologia.

The Interpretation of Paul's Thought: A Historical Approach

Abstract: This article aims to present a historical analysis of the main interpretative approaches to the thought of the apostle Paul throughout the history of the church and biblical scholarship. Beginning with a biographical and ministerial overview of Paul, the study highlights the complexity and depth of his theology, as well as the challenges involved in its interpretation. The article then examines the major hermeneutical paradigms that have shaped Pauline studies, including perspectives from the early church, the Middle Ages, the Protestant Reformation, the Enlightenment, liberal theology, Rudolf Bultmann’s existentialist interpretation, Jewish and eschatological approaches, and the so-called New Perspective on Paul. The discussion demonstrates how many of these interpretations were deeply influenced by philosophical, cultural, and theological presuppositions specific to their historical contexts, often leading to interpretative reductionism. In conclusion, the article argues that although diverse perspectives have contributed valuable insights to Pauline studies, none fully captures the complexity of Paul’s theology. It affirms the central role of justification by faith while emphasizing Paul’s Jewish background, theological development, and transformative conversion experience as essential elements for a comprehensive understanding of his thought.
