ENFRENTAMENTO DO CÂNCER: APOIO A PACIENTES EM TRATAMENTO
Resumo
Decorrente da grande incidência do câncer no Brasil e da desestruturação que esse diagnóstico e tratamento acarretam na vida dos pacientes, é fundamental a atuação de um ministério de apoio para dar suporte aos mesmos e a seus familiares. Vários estudos referentes ao câncer comprovam que pacientes que participam de um grupo de apoio possuem um melhor ajustamento à doença, redução dos distúrbios emocionais (como ansiedade e depressão), melhor adesão ao tratamento e diminuição dos sintomas adversos associados ao câncer e aos tratamentos, podendo até obter um aumento no tempo de sobrevida. Por isso, este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre convicções bíblicas que determinam e controlam a abordagem para o apoio a pacientes com câncer. Para isso, fez-se necessário um estudo sobre os doentes no Antigo Testamento com sua relativa problemática, abordando os principais tipos de doenças que acometiam as pessoas (lepra, cegueira, surdez, paralisia e esterilidade); a relação entre doença e pecado; maldição; a prevenção da doença e o modo de ver o doente; e no Novo Testamento, como os doentes eram tratados e como devem ser servidos; o poder da fé e a força da oração para a cura; a questão da possessão ou obsessão demoníaca; o sofrimento e o sacrifício; a esperança na angústia; a consolação no luto e na morte, da espiritualidade de quem se defronta com a doença e de quem se coloca a serviço dos doentes; e a partir disso tudo, uma reflexão teológico-pastoral. Também será apresentada uma resenha histórica mostrando a bimilenar presença da Igreja no mundo da saúde.

Cancer Coping: support for patients in treatment
ABSTRACT
Due to the great incidence of cancer in Brazil and the disruption that this diagnosis and treatment entail in the life of the patients, it is essential that a support ministry act to support them and their families. Several cancer studies have shown that patients participating in a support group have a better adjustment to the disease, reduced emotional disturbances (such as anxiety and depression), improved adherence to treatment, and decreased adverse symptoms associated with cancer and treatments. And sometimes also an increase in the survival time. Therefore, this article aims to reflect on biblical convictions that determine and control the approach to support cancer patients. For this, a study of the patients in the Old Testament with their relative problematic was necessary, addressing the main types of diseases that affected people (leprosy, blindness, deafness, paralysis and sterility); The relationship between sickness and sin; curse; The prevention of disease and the way of seeing the patient; And in the New Testament, how the sick were treated and how they should be served; The power of faith and the power of prayer for healing; The question of demonic possession or obsession; Suffering and sacrifice; Hope in anguish; Consolation in mourning and death, of the spirituality of those who are faced with illness and of those who put themselves at the service of the sick; And from all this, a theological-pastoral reflection. A historical review will also be presented showing the Church's presence in the area of health.
