WILLIAM CAMERON TOWNSEND: UM DOS MAIORES MISSIONÁRIOS DOS ÚLTIMOS SÉCULOS

Resumo

O trabalho biográfico mostrou como William Cameron Townsend foi levado a impulsionar a tradução da Bíblia no mundo, sendo considerado por Billy Graham o maior missionário da era atual. Durante a sua vida fundou três grandes organizações: tradutores da Bíblia Wycliffe, SIL e JAARS, todas visando facilitar a tradução da Bíblia no mundo todo, cada uma tendo uma área de atuação. Este artigo apresenta detalhes sobre esses fatos, bem como sobre o nascimento e a infância de Townsend, a ida ao campo missionário e a tradução do Novo Testamento na língua Cakchiquel, elaborada por ele mesmo.

William Cameron Townsend: one of the greatest missionaries of the last centuries

Abstract: The following biographical work shows how William Cameron Townsend was led to promoting the translation of the Bible in the world, being considered one of the greatest missionaries of the current era by Billy Graham. During his life he founded three major organizations: Wycliffe Bible translators, SIL and JAARS, all of them aiming to facilitate the translation of the Bible worldwide, and each having an area of expertise. This article presents details about those facts, and also about Townsend”s birth and childhood, his trip to the missionary field and the translation of the New Testament to the Cakchiquel, elaborated by himself.
