A VIDA E A OBRA DE JOHN PATON

Resumo

John Gibson Paton foi um missionário escocês enviado por Deus às Ilhas do Pacífico Sul, também conhecidas por Vanuatu. Através do testemunho de seu pai durante toda sua infância e juventude, Paton foi transformado por Jesus. Na universidade de Glasgow se preparou estudando Teologia e Medicina, servindo por 10 anos como missionário nos subúrbios de Glasgow. Em 1858 casou-se com Mary A. Robson e seguiu para os povos canibais em Tana onde viria a perder sua esposa e seu filho recém-nascido contaminados pela malária. Mas nenhuma dificuldade fez Paton desistir de seu chamado, pois a cada luta, se lembrava da promessa de Deus, “Eis que estou convosco todos os dias, até o fim dos tempos” (Mt 28.20b).

The life and work of John Paton

Abstract: John Gibson Paton was a Scottish missionary sent by God to the South Pacific Islands, also known as Vanuatu. Through his father's testimony throughout his childhood and youth, Paton was transformed by Jesus. At the University of Glasgow, he prepared himself studying Theology and Medicine, serving for 10 years as a missionary in the suburbs of Glasgow. In 1858 he married Mary A. Robson and went to the cannibalistic tribes in Tana where he would lose his wife and newborn son to malaria. But no difficulty made Paton give up his call, for with every struggle, he remembered God's promise, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Mt 28.20b).
